Shiona Turini Shares How to Get a Job In Fashion

Shiona Turini is an accessories director at Teen Vogue and she gives Fashion Bomb Daily some information about how she started in the fashion industry and how she got her dream job today.

"I graduated [Hampton University] with absolutely NO fashion experience – not one internship. So, when I [finished my studies] and moved to New York, I interned at Yves Saint Laurent in the PR Department. I was there for almost a year as a full time intern but freelanced often at KCD (during the shows and when publicists would travel to Europe). Finally, a position opened up and I was hired at Yves Saint Laurent as the PR Assistant.

I was at work today and I fell in love with one of my customers' outfit online at Starbucks. Unfortunately I was in a hurry to get his information such as his name and what he was wearing. I do know he works at J. Crew, Northlake Mall. Hopefully he is reading and will chime in.

His outfit is modern and preppy and appropriate for everyday.
The cuffed skinny jeans are my favorite part. It is a trademark of mine. They are not cuffed too much, but just enough to see the flesh of the foot.

*update: I ended up finding out his name through another friend.

my starbucks rewards

This is my first time sharing with you information about my job. This is just too good to not share. Starbucks has launched a new rewards program this year for it's valued customers. It is a revised idea to the previous program available last year. Now, anyone can take advantage of great benefits at Starbucks.

The prior Gold Card was actually a black card and it cost $25 to join. After joining, you were given the ability to get 10% off all purchases.

Here is what's new:
The updated program is now called My Starbucks Rewards. The $25 fee has been dropped, but has been replaced with a point system. So now anyone who drinks coffee enough can now take advantage of it! You only will be able to get a personalized Gold Card after receiving 30 points. You won't get 10% all your purchases, but you do get a slew of other great benefits.

  • A free drink on your birthday
  • Free Soy
  • Free flavored syrups
  • Free refills on brewed coffee/tea
  • 2 hours of free Wi-Fi per day.
  • Other coupons and offers in the mail

Day 32: Halloween Makeup Attempt

Today I had to go to work on Halloween. Isn't that fortunate? On the flip side my job [Starbucks] allowed us to dress up though! I wasn't going to go out and buy an actual costume for work though. I do not have the money to be doing unnecessary splurges. So my co-worker told me I should be an "Emo Barista" lol. It sounded do-able when her and I were talking; I had all the need accessories. All I had to get was some cheap eyeliner from Walgreens.

How does it look? When I did my eye makeup I had the look in my head, I just don't think it played well on my face.

retail horror

I always hear horror stories from my friends who work in retail. Working at the mall has always been highly desired by young teens in high-school. It’s either the great discount or just the bragging rights you get to recieve from being able to punch in at the location, I don’t know what form drags people into work for retail chains.

My friend Kim got a job this summer working at abercrombie for kids at Northlake Mall. Anyone getting a job in this season of the economy is blessed, but at the same time cursed :[. Working for big retail chains always come with the bad always outweighing the good. The most angst I hear is about one shift a week, low pay, too many people on the schedule, poor management etc. Those are all important things considering you actually applied to a location to make money.

I work part-time, and I mean very much part-time at Charlotte Russe at Northlake Mall as well and I am in the same position. Thank GOD that Charlotte Russe was not my only job, because I would be in trouble. My manager basically told us, you get hours based on how well you sale. If you can make the store more money, they are more willing to put you on the schedule. I am not as upset as others because I make all of my other money from Starbucks [I LOVE YOU STARBUCKS!!]. So I just have Charlotte Russe for pocket change and basically gas money.

I feel that retail companies need to stop milking teens for all of there worth. I think a boycott should be put in place :D Sounds very “in-your-face” to me! Just for the record, I don’t shop at any of those major mall chains anyways. I am better off NOT paying for overpriced clothes.

[dressed] at work_starbucks

When I get dressed up for work, I get excited because at my job I have room for experimentation. I wear skinny jeans, a black studded belt, a Starbucks shirt I bought, and some black on black chucks.

The picture on the right, I pinned up my apron! It originally came all the way down pass my knees! I think it looks much cooler this way lol.
Keep it [dressed].
