Trend: The Tribal Style

Every summer the fashion magazines are filled with “ethnic” inspired pieces: African bangles, Indian saris, Asian floral patterns, and oodles and oodles of animal print. Take the Louis Vuitton summer 2009 collection (designed by the fashion favorite Marc Jacobs). Models walked the runway wearing wooden bracelets, obi belts, beaded sandals, and zebra print scarves. The clothes are beautiful but the prices are totally ridiculous! Looking “ethnic-chic” in designer clothes will run you into the tens of thousands… and there is absolutely no point.

Most of the pieces on the runway, especially for summer, were inspired by China, India, Africa, and the Middle-East…so why not buy directly from the source! Look up stores that sell goods from these countries. They are usually really tiny hole-in-the-wall type places that specialize in selling goods to a small community of people. For example, in my home town there is a store called Little India. I was able to purchase 20 (fake) gold bangles, 2 saris, 1 turban, and some delish dessert for around 75 bucks!!!

To get the Louis look I wore:
Wear a crisp white large mens oxford, tied bright pink fabric (I cut from the Indian sari) around my waist to get the obi look pile on all the gold bangles with some gold rings, put on some strappy gladiator sandals, added a lovely turban, to add some designer flair I carried my favorite Louis Vuitton bag. The look is easy to achieve, and definitely affordable, just type in Indian, Chinese, or African Store plus your zip code into Google and something is bound to come up.

sneaker alert_birkenstock sandals?

Men, here goes an alternative to the "women's" gladiators that I posted before. I know they are Birkenstocks, but there's not many options for guys - Even though in ancient greece, that's all they wore...

Tip: Your Number 1 + 2 Accessory

Being fashionable is a fulltime gig. We find ourselves browsing every clothing site on the net and shop hoping for the perfect accessories to make an outfit stand out. At the end of the day we suffer the pains associated with covering every mall in the area so grueling that the hunt almost seems not worth it. In this hunt for “the” best accessories we neglect the obvious. We carry our two best accessories with us; our skin and our hair.

Sadly enough I am not a doctor, your skin should be left to your own devices. Just keep is clean and remove any unnecessary oils from your skin on a daily basis. On the hair front, keeping your hair on the up and up is largely a matter of personal style. What you can do with your hair is in large a matter of genetics. Personally, my hair is a kinky as it comes. It’s thick, curly and untamable. So I embrace my hair for the wild beast it is, I often wear my hair in a well coifed or curly fro, and occasionally I wear it in two strand twists. I would suggest embracing your hair for its natural state, especially if you’re a person of color. Just make a practice of keeping it clean and free of excess oil, dandruff and dirt. Use good products, and experiment until you find what works for you.

A few key concepts in wearing your hair well:
--Make it look like nature gave to you what others would die for.
--Do not use products that carry heavy odors that may overpower a light cologne.
--Combs, brushes and other hair grooming utensils are your friends, use them.
--Don’t be afraid to try new products.
--Choose styles that frame your face well.
--Keep in mind that what works for another person, might not always work for you.

Shoes: Rachel Zoe + Piperlime

I was watching The Rachel Zoe Project on Bravo, and found out that she has a little page on the Piperlime website where she makes her top picks known for customers. They have some great selections up there. You know if Rachel Zoe has her stamp on something, than you know it must be fierce.

Rachel says that she "loves the pom-pom"..."It's a forward take on a classic pump." I totally support that statement, they are just so cute.

Trend: Bracelets For Men

"This fall, J. Crew is featuring striped friendship bracelets - inspired by '30s-era club ties - in its mean's collection, each hand-made in London with hand-dyed linen and secured with an elegant metal buckle."

An arm full of friendship bracelets and the like are a very cute and trendy way to add a little color to an outfit. Don't put on too many or you will look kind of hippie. This trendy is very simple and cheap - unlike others that are expensive (colored skinny jeans). You can either make them yourself or buy a bunch from the store such as J. Crew, AE or a local arts and craft store. Just be creative with it.

YES, YES, YES!! I LOVE the use of red, white and blue in an outfit. Those are some of my favorite colors. Adding the pop of gold from the blazer is brilliant.

on my ipod_common - inhale

Off of the "Universal Mind Control" album. This song is a dance record. I love music with energy. I'm not a big fan of the Hip-Hop genre or Common, but I think he is trying to make his music more relevant with this record.
Sound off.

Lyrics from the song:
"I'm hotter than a beach
Flow is so deep
Even underwater
I can inhale and put the world in order"

Tattoo: Angelina Jolie

Tattoos used to be taboo especially for women. But Angelina Jolie negates that statement everytime I see here! She is so awesome. I love her so much. She carries herself as a strong, powerful woman regardless of the amount of ink that she has. Sometimes I think the tattoos make her more sexy. But not ALL women can pull of this look. You have to have a certain level of confidence...

You can see all of her tatttoos here.

Trend: Chanel Half Tint Sunglasses

These glasses are showing up all over Hollywood and NY. I was reading blogs about how they are not for sale on the Chanel website. I went to look myself and I didn't see them. I guess they are just exclusive for celebrities now.

If anyone finds them "authentically", on the Chanel website or in-store, let me know.

Hot or Not: Panty Lines Showing

Why is this so hard for women to understand? Pantylines are GROSS! I don't care where you are, at the grocery store, mall, library, post office...you need to make sure your granny panties are not showing. It's very simple to take care of this, juss get rid of all the saggy underwear in your drawer and replace them with boyshorts, thongs or g-strings. This will allow you to never have to worry about if your panty-lines are showing.

hair_hok

I love Hok Konishi! I fell in love with him when I first saw him on "So You Think You Can Dance" (He is the one of the left by the way). I really loved his hair and how different it is. I have never seen hairstyles like his. He has his signature braid on the side of the head thats so fly. I wonder if it's a weave...hmmm.

I just wish I could get my hair like that.
It probably wouldn't come out that way though.

the kids who smoke

(Agyness Deyn)
Why is it with all the trendy kids that smoke?
Why is it becoming trendy to pick up such the dirty habit?
I hate looking at pictures of beautiful young men/women on the net of them in hot outfits, but puffing on cancer sticks.

I know smoking is definitely not a new thing, but I just think that there is NO reason to smoke.
It makes your clothes smell horrible and you age faster, and not only is it bad for your health people it is not attractive!

Pick up a new addicting habit--like washing your hands?!

how to really wear a suit?

Our lives are comprised of years, weeks and days that are eventually reduced to mere moments. Some of these moments require us to look our best in a suit. Sadly enough, most men do not know how to wear a suit properly. This being said, I want to provide you with some basic information on how a suit should fit.

A suit should convey an image of power, style and refinement. A baggy, cheaply made suit resembles a costume, and that is the worst possible image to have. A suit should fit well and it should show a little of your best assets. Most men, if you’re blessed, have broad shoulders a proportionate chest and a relatively narrow waistline. Whether your blessed or not, these are the things you want your suit to accentuate most and a good fit is the only way to achieve such a look.

A suit pant should fit similar to a good pair of slightly tapered or strait legged jeans. A well fitting suit doesn’t require a proper tie or belt, and will move easily between the office and a high-end lounge.

A few signs of a poorly fitting suit:
1. A suit with pleated pants. (Pleats add unnecessary bulk and weight)
2. Your pants slide off without a belt.
3. Your pants bunch when paired with a belt, there is a reason to wear pants that are sized.
4. The suits jacket is shapeless.
5. The dress shirt is billowy. (NO, NO, NO! Large billowy shirts are made to hide things; this is not the image you want to convey)
6. You purchased the suit in a department store on a $99 sale. (At least get it tailored)
7. You haven’t taken your really expensive suit to be tailored because you believe the name and material is all that counts. (Sorry Calvin Klein doesn’t know you, and he did not tailor this suit just for you.)

All suits do not need to be expensive to look good. It is all in the fit, so keep in mind a good tailor for you. Choose good fabrics, pair with nice shirts, great accessories and you will be well [dressed] for all your daily events.

These look sooo painful! But Victoria, the truly legendary fashion icon, can pull off pretty much anything! The Christian Louboutin's were designed for the Rodarte collection.
